Sodium glycinate is a salt of the amino acid glycine and the sodium ion. It is commonly used as a buffering agent, but has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. Sodium glycinate has been shown to inhibit the bcr-abl kinase in cancer cells and show significant up-regulation in clinical pathology. Sodium glycinate has also been shown to exhibit antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Enterococcus faecalis.
