Product Information

Name:
s-tribromobenzene
Synonyms:
  • Methyl 4-chlorobenzoate
  • 1,2,3-Tribromobenzene
Description:

S-tribromobenzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that is a byproduct of the industrial production of phenol, which is used to manufacture plastics, resins, and dyes. S-tribromobenzene has been found in the environment as a result of pollution from coal-fired power plants and other sources. It is absorbed by ultraviolet light and can be identified by its nmr spectra. S-tribromobenzene can also be used as a solvent for methanol, but it has been shown to react with palladium metal and form organometallic compounds. The compound's structure changes when hydroxyl groups are removed by debromination or copper oxide reduction. This process may cause viscosity to change because of the strain on the molecule's skeleton.
