Description:

Squalene-2,3-diol is a cycloartenol acetate that is expressed by the genus Acacia. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against P. aeruginosa and other bacteria in biochemical tests. The compound has also shown anticancer properties in mice, with promising results for the treatment of breast cancer. Squalene-2,3-diol is a glycoside derivative of cycloartenol acetate and has been found to have hepatoprotective effects in rats. This compound is thought to act by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis and esterification. Squalene-2,3-diol also binds to a molecule called fatty acid and can be used as a precursor for the synthesis of prostaglandins and thromboxanes.
