Sulfo-NHS-acetate is a monoclonal antibody that binds to the lysine residues of proteins. It is a sulfhydryl reagent that reacts with amino groups on proteins, forming covalent bonds. Sulfo-NHS-acetate is used in cell culture as an inhibitor of protein synthesis. It is particularly effective at inhibiting the synthesis of proteins with high lysine content and low cysteine content. Sulfo-NHS-acetate has also been shown to have biological properties that are dependent on its reactive group and can be used as a plant growth regulator by stimulating apical dominance.
