Sodium 3-(benzothiazol-2-ylthio)-1-propanesulfonate is an organic compound that is used in the electroplating industry as a brightener and corrosion inhibitor. It is also used to produce isonicotinic acid, a chemical intermediate for pharmaceuticals and dyes. The salt of the compound has been shown to be highly efficient for brightening copper surfaces, with a brightness efficiency of 98%. Sodium 3-(benzothiazol-2-ylthio)-1-propanesulfonate can be used at concentrations of only 0.25% by weight as a conditioner in glycols, which are widely used in industrial paints. When dissolved in water, this salt produces sodium chloride and sulfuric acid.
