Sodium silicate solution is a chemical compound that is used in detergent compositions. It can be made by combining potassium dichromate and sodium carbonate, which react to form sodium hydroxide, water vapor, and silica. Sodium silicate solution is also used as a catalyst for benzalkonium chloride, which is an ingredient in many cleaning products. The thermal expansion of sodium silicate solution has been shown to be proportional to the amount of water vapor present. The pluronic p123 surfactant can also be dissolved in this solution, which may help prevent clumping of particles during the manufacturing process. Sodium silicate solution has been shown to have biological properties that are similar to those of natural erythrocytes. It reacts with light that emits from lamps or lasers, producing a particle-free flow system. Addition of fatty acids such as stearic or palmitic acid may increase the viscosity and decrease the rate at which the liquid evaporates from surfaces
