Description:

a-Sexithiophene is an organic compound that belongs to the group of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. It is a crystalline solid with two polymorphs: form I and form II. The compound has a molecular weight of 132.2 g/mol and an empirical formula CH. This functional group has two asymmetric carbon atoms and exhibits deionized water adsorption as well as chemisorption on the surface of a metal oxide, which is due to its high hydrogen bonding ability. Some molecules of this functional group are able to emit light when activated by energy, such as ultraviolet light or electron beams. The activation energies for recombination in the molecule are low, which leads to rapid growth kinetics. The melting point of a-sexithiophene is high at 255°C and it has optical properties with a band gap of 1.7 eV.
