Sodium myristate is a sodium salt that belongs to the group of alkanoic acid salts. It is an antimicrobial agent that is used in the production of particle boards and other building materials. Sodium myristate has been shown to have thermal expansion properties, which are due to its low melting point. This property makes it useful as a filler in paints and coatings. It also has an optimum concentration range, which is between 6-12%. The protonation of this salt occurs at pH values above 8, while the phase transition temperature ranges from -11°C to +14°C. Sodium myristate can be produced by reacting anhydrous sodium with glycol ether in the presence of a base.
