Sodium 2-fluorobenzoate is a white crystalline solid that has been used as a polymerization initiator and a viscosity modifier. It has two asymmetric carbon atoms in the pyrazole ring, which gives it dihedral angles of 18°. The functional groups on this compound are carboxylate and hydrogen. Sodium 2-fluorobenzoate has two hydrogen bonds with water molecules, which can be seen by the intramolecular hydrogen bonding. This molecule also forms hydrogen bonds with other water molecules and can hydrate to form a gel. Sodium 2-fluorobenzoate is also an acid because of its carboxylate functional group, which can deprotonate to form a negatively charged ion called the benzoate anion.
