Sodium hexafluoroferrate is an inorganic compound that predominately exists as a solid. It is used to produce nanotubes, which are tubes of metal or semiconductor material. This compound is produced by the reaction of sodium carbonate with hydrofluoric acid in a synthetic process. When it reacts with hydrogen peroxide, it forms particles and reaction products. Sodium hexafluoroferrate has binding properties and is used in treatments for hydrophobic surfaces such as oil spills. It can also be used as an acid catalyst when interacting with other chemicals such as electrolysis or hydrogen peroxide.
