Sodium 2,2-difluoroacetate, also known as DFD, is a chemical compound that belongs to the trifluoroacetic acid family. It is an important precursor in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals. The compound can be prepared by reacting hydrogen fluoride with sodium difluoroacetate in a reaction solution with nitrogen gas. This reaction has been shown to produce two tautomeric forms of DFD: a keto form and an enol form. The keto form is more stable than the enol form and reacts with proton more readily. The analytical method for determining the concentration of DFD relies on measuring the amount of proton released from the keto tautomer during this process.
