Sodium hexafluoroantimonate is an inorganic acid that is a white solid. It is used to make other chemicals, such as phosphotungstic acid (a reagent for histology), phosphorus pentoxide (a reagent for organic synthesis), and potassium hexafluorophosphate. Sodium hexafluoroantimonate has been shown to have a thermal expansion coefficient of 0.0011 cm/cm°C, which means it changes dimension more than any other metal at elevated temperatures. It also has a trifluoroacetic acid-soluble fraction of about 40%. This property can be used to separate the metal from impurities by precipitation. Sodium hexafluoroantimonate can also be used to make cationic polymers with activated hydroxyl groups and intramolecular hydrogen bonds, which are capable of forming hydrogen bonds with other molecules and cells. Sodium hexafluoroantimonate has been shown to have growth factor
