It has been shown to form tetramers through the reaction with farnesyl, which can be used to produce functionalized dendrimers. This product has also been used in spectroscopy experiments and elemental analysis. 1,3-Bis(t-butyldimethylsilyloxy)methylbenzene is soluble in tetrahydrofuran and pentane and reacts with toluene to form bis(toluenesulfonyl)methanol.
