Triethyl 2-fluoro-2-phosophonoacetate (TFAP) is a molecule that inhibits the enzyme hdac (histone deacetylase). TFAP is an organic compound that contains fluorine and nitrogen. It is one of the geometric isomers of ethyl 2-fluoro-2-phosphonoacetate. TFAP has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis by inhibiting histone deacetylases, which are enzymes that remove acetyl groups from histones. This inhibition leads to an increase in the expression of genes associated with cell proliferation and differentiation. TFAP also has been shown to be selective for retinoic acid receptor beta, which may be due to its high affinity for this subtype of retinoid receptors. This selectivity may have implications for its use as a treatment for cancer or other disorders where retinoic acid receptor beta is expressed at high levels, such as psoriasis and acne.
