Product Information

Name:
2,2,6,6-Tetramethyl-4-piperidinone
Synonyms:
  • Triacetoneamine Hydrate
  • 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidin-4-One
Description:

2,2,6,6-Tetramethyl-4-piperidinone (TEMPO) is a quaternary ammonium salt that can be used as an industrial stabilizer. It has been shown to inhibit the development of phytophthora and has been used in the treatment of this disease. TEMPO is also used to enhance fluorescence in the detection of anions. The reactive form of TEMPO is stabilized by hydrochloric acid, which activates it for use in the reduction of diketones and piperidine. The resulting product is a phenylhydrazine compound that can be oxidized by anion sensors for detection purposes.
