4-(Trifluoromethyl)phenyl isocyanate inhibits the activity of enzymes that catalyze the synthesis or degradation of fatty acids. It has been shown to be effective against bowel disease and may also be used for other inflammatory diseases. 4-(Trifluoromethyl)phenyl isocyanate has been shown to inhibit the activity of diacylglycerol lipase, an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of diacylglycerol to yield glycerol and acetic acid. This inhibition leads to increased levels of diacylglycerol in cells, which may contribute to physiological effects such as inflammation.
