Tris-2-chloroethylorthoformate is a nucleotide reagent that can be used to modify the amino group of a protein. It is formed by the reaction of orthoformic acid with 2-chloroethyl chloride. The reaction yields an electrophilic compound, which reacts with nucleotides to form ketones. This reagent has been shown to be reactive with both indoles and aldehydes and can be used in a variety of reactions such as ammonia chloride catalyzed reactions.
