Description

2-(Trifluoromethoxy)phenyl isocyanate (TFMOPIC) is a tetracycline derivative that inhibits the neuraminidase enzyme of influenza virus, which blocks the release of viral particles and prevents the spread of infection. It has been shown to be effective against influenza A and B viruses in vitro. TFMOPIC also inhibits nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, which is responsible for neurotransmission at the neuromuscular junction. This drug can be used to treat cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and other conditions. TFMOPIC is synthesized from morpholine and 2-chlorobenzoyl chloride in the presence of a base such as pyridine or triethylamine. The product forms two stereoisomers with different inhibitory potencies. The S-isomer is more potent than the R-isomer.
