Description

Tanshinone I is a natural compound that has been shown to have antibacterial efficacy against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tanshinone I also has pro-apoptotic effects in cancer cells and increased neuronal death in brain cells. It is also used as an anti-inflammatory agent, inhibiting the activity of MMP-9, which breaks down collagen. This inhibition leads to the reduction of atherosclerotic lesions and the prevention of myocardial infarcts. Tanshinone I binds to dinucleotide phosphate (DNP) in the DNA sequence, preventing DNA from uncoiling or replicating properly. This inhibits cell growth by binding to dNTPs and blocking DNA synthesis.
