4-(3-Trifluoromethylphenyl)-1-(2-Cyanoethyl)-1,2,3,6-Tetrahydropyridine Hydrochloride (TFMPP) is a drug that has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in animal models of cerebral ischemia. TFMPP is a serotonin receptor agonist that interacts with 5-HT receptors and inhibits serotonin reuptake. TFMPP also blocks the uptake of glutamate, which may be responsible for its neuroprotective effect. 4-(3-Trifluoromethylphenyl)-1-(2-Cyanoethyl)-1,2,3,6-Tetrahydropyridine Hydrochloride has been shown to enhance energy metabolism and decrease neuronal death in vitro. In vivo studies are needed to determine if this drug can be used for treatment after brain injury.
