2-(Trifluoroacetyl)furan is a neurotoxic compound that belongs to the group of organic compounds. It is a colorless liquid with a strong odor and boiling point of -14 °C. 2-(Trifluoroacetyl)furan has been shown to protect nerve cells from sodium hypochlorite-induced damage in vitro and in vivo. It also possesses neuroprotective properties against hydrogen fluoride-induced neuronal death in rats. 2-(Trifluoroacetyl)furan is used for the production of pharmaceutical formulations, silicon wafers, and coatings for metals such as copper, zinc, and aluminum. This compound can be prepared by the asymmetric synthesis of furan using anhydrous hydrogen fluoride as the solvent.
