2,4,6-Triphenylpyrylium fluoroborate (TPBF) is a nucleophilic boron reagent that is used for the synthesis of chiral carbon nanotubes. It can be prepared in two steps from boron trifluoride etherate and phenylacetaldehyde. TPBF is commercially available with the trade names Triphenylpyrylium

Fluoroborate. TPBF reacts with amines to form a bond cleavage product and an ethyl ester.
