Product Information

Name:
2,2,2-trifluoroethyl Acetate
Synonyms:
  • Acetic acid 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl ester
Description:

2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl Acetate is a chemical species that inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of fatty acids. It is also used as an antimicrobial agent in household products and has been shown to have a synergistic effect when combined with trifluoroacetic acid. 2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl Acetate is a chemical intermediate in many organic syntheses and can be used to produce β-amino acids and β-hydroxy amino acids. It has also been shown to inhibit HIV infection by binding to the envelope protein gp120 on the surface of the virus. The low energy transfer reaction between this chemical compound and gp120 prevents the virus from attaching to target cells and entering them.
