Description:

3-(Trifluoromethyl)pyridine is a n-oxide that can be synthesized by the reaction of halides with water vapor in the presence of chlorine. This compound has been detected in wastewater and chlorinated drinking water, where it is produced as an intermediate. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)pyridine inhibits hepatic enzymes such as cytochrome P450, hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase, and glutathione S-transferase. It also causes enzyme activities to decrease in the liver and kidneys. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)pyridine is metabolized through hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes or glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)pyridine can be synthesized from diphenyl ether and
