1,2,4,5-Tetrafluorobenzene is a chemical compound that has the molecular formula C6H2F4. It is a highly reactive and very corrosive substance that is used in the production of industrial chemicals. 1,2,4,5-Tetrafluorobenzene has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties in mice by inhibiting the release of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) from arachidonic acid. The mechanisms of this inhibition are not well understood but may be due to its ability to react with water molecules to form an intermediate product called hydroxyfluorobenzene. This product can then react with chloride ions to form chloride hydroxyfluorobenzenes, which are less reactive than their parent molecule and therefore less likely to cause inflammation.
