Description:

5-(Trifluoromethyl)thiophen-3-one is a heterocyclic molecule that has the same bioisosteric properties as methyl thioglycolate. It is synthesized by condensation of ethyl chloroacetate and 3,4-dichlorobenzoyl chloride. 5-(Trifluoromethyl)thiophen-3-one can be hydrolyzed to 5-(trifluoromethyl)thiophene, which decarboxylates to produce 4-amino-2,5-dichlorobenzoic acid.
