2-(2,2,2-Trifluoroacetyl)cyclohexan-1-one is a prodrug that is converted to the active form 2,2,2-trifluoroacetic acid by the enzyme carboxylesterase. The optimal reaction for this conversion is in the presence of organic ligands such as tetradentate (e.g., cyclohexane), tautomeric (e.g., allyl alcohol), and coordination chemistry (e.g., triethyl orthoformate). 2-(2,2,2-Trifluoroacetyl)cyclohexan-1-one has shown to be effective against a variety of plant diseases including mildews and rusts. This compound also has agrochemical properties and can be used as a herbicide or fungicide in agriculture or horticulture.
