Description

1,1,2,2-tetrafluoro-1-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)ethane is a fluorinated hydrocarbon that is used as an organic solvent. It has high chemical stability and a low boiling point. This liquid phase oxidant can be used to oxidize alcohols to aldehydes and ketones to carboxylic acids. It is also an exothermic reagent that can be used in the functional theory of solvents in order to calculate the polarity of liquids. 1,1,2,2-Tetrafluoro-1-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)ethane reacts with hexane or ethane to form ionic liquids for use in applications such as silicone rubber production. The hydrogen bond between this molecule and its solvent allows it to dissolve other compounds and transport them from one place to another.
