N-[2-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]acetamide is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC). ACC catalyzes the conversion of acetyl-CoA and oxaloacetate to malonyl-CoA and pyruvate. N-[2-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]acetamide inhibits this reaction by binding to the active site of ACC, which prevents the formation of a thioester bond between coenzyme A and oxaloacetate. N-[2-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]acetamide has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in vitro and in vivo, as well as reduce weight gain in mice fed a high-fat diet. It also suppresses lipid accumulation by inhibiting ACC activity.
