Description:

2,3,4-trifluoroiodobenzene is an organic compound that is a dimer of 2,3,4-trifluorobenzene. The crystal structure of this compound has been determined by X-ray diffraction and found to be in the monoclinic system. It has a melting point of 140°C and a solubility of 1.25g/L in water at 25°C. 2,3,4-trifluoroiodobenzene forms colorless crystals that crystallize in the monoclinic system and contains two molecules per unit cell. The bonding between the molecules is electrostatic with a dipole moment of 0.8D. This compound has been shown to react with potassium hydroxide to form potassium iodide and hydrogen gas in a nonconventional reaction that does not follow the standard nucleophilic substitution pattern.
