5-(Tetradecyloxy)-2-furoic acid is a fatty acid that is a component of the phospholipids in the cell membrane. It inhibits ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) and ABCG1, which are proteins that move lipid molecules from inside the cell to outside. 5-(Tetradecyloxy)-2-furoic acid also shows some activity against autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and multiple sclerosis. This compound has been shown to inhibit prostate cancer cells by reducing ATP levels and increasing AMPK activators. 5-(Tetradecyloxy)-2-furoic acid may be used in combination with other drugs to treat prostate cancer, but it has not been tested in clinical trials.
