2,3,4,9-Tetrahydro-1H-carbazole-8-carboxylic acid is an abiotic compound that has been synthesized and characterized. It is a potentiodynamic polarization spectroscopy technique for determining the efficiencies of carbazoles. The carbazoles adsorb to the surface of the electrode, which causes a change in the electron transfer rate from the electrode to the analyte. This leads to changes in the potentials and spectra. For example, FTIR spectra can be used to identify biotic carbazoles such as 2-methylcarbazole by observing peaks at 1710 cm−1 and 1640 cm−1.
