1-(1H-1,2,4-Triazol-5-yl)ethanone is a hydrazine compound that has been used in the preparation of methylhydrazones and hydrazides. The 1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-yl)ethanone ligand can be generated from a square planar triazole by the reaction of an electrophilic hydrazine with the protonated nitrogen atom of the triazole. This reaction results in a tetrahedral intermediate that can be stabilized by deprotonation with potassium fluoride or sodium bicarbonate to form the desired ligand.
