1,3,4-Thiadiazole-2,5-diamine is a ligand that binds to metal ions in the form of a complex. It can be used as a sensitive test for metal ions by its ability to react with hydrogen peroxide and nitrogen atoms. The nature of this compound is heterocyclic amine. When reacted with amines it forms thiosemicarbazide. In the presence of peroxide and hydrogen peroxide, 1,3,4-thiadiazole-2,5-diamine reacts to form an adduct that diffracts at 8.5 Ångström. This reaction product can be used in biological assays to detect the presence of phenylethylamine (PEA) and other amines.
