5-(Trifluoromethyl)-1,3-benzothiazole-2-thiol is a sulphamido, sulphonate, benzene, hydrazone, oleum, disulphide, benzothiazolone, benzothiazoles and nitro compound. It is also known as 1-(4-Nitrophenyl)-5-(trifluoromethyl)benzene and has been shown to react with carboxylic acids to form hexadecyl chlorobenzene. This reaction can be used for the synthesis of a variety of compounds such as hexadecyl chlorobenzene. The chloride ion can be substituted with hydrogen chloride or hydrogen bromide. The trifluoromethyl group can be replaced with other halogens.
