Tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo[1,2-c]imidazole-1,3(2H)-dione is a bicyclic compound that inhibits bacterial growth. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria. This antibiotic can be used to treat infections caused by bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo[1,2-c]imidazole-1,3(2H)-dione binds to the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) and prevents the formation of the RNR complex with other proteins required for DNA synthesis. This leads to inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell division.
