2,3,4-Trimethyl-1H-pyrrole is a fluorescent compound that has been used in the study of metal coordination complexes. It is insoluble in water and organic solvents, and can be synthesized by the reaction of two equivalents of 1,2-dichloropropane with equilibration. 2,3,4-Trimethyl-1H-pyrrole has a low fluorescence quantum yield and its emission spectrum peaks at around 450 nm. This compound has been shown to have an absorption band peaking at around 460 nm when it is excited with light at 490 nm. 2,3,4-Trimethyl-1H-pyrrole has also been shown to have a conformational equilibrium between a chair and boat form.
