Tribromoisocyanuric acid (TBA) is an organic compound that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It is prepared from trifluoroacetic acid and bromine. TBA has been shown to be an efficient method for the synthesis of aromatic and aliphatic halogen compounds, including chloroform, dichloromethane, 1,1-dichloroethane, and 1,2-dichloroethane. Because TBA minimizes the formation of malonic acid and naphthalene during the reaction process, it can be used to synthesize these compounds. TBA also produces high yields of products with minimal side reactions and shows low toxicity towards prostate cancer cells. The proposed synthetic pathway includes a solid catalyst that facilitates this reaction process. TBA also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties when combined with dimethyl fumarate.
