It is a strong oxidant and can also be used as an acceptor for electron transfer reactions. TP has been shown to react with leukotriene A4 (LTA4), which is a pro-inflammatory mediator in asthma. TP has been studied extensively due to its efficient method of producing radicals, which may lead to better understanding of the chemical mechanism of these reactions.
