4,5,6,7-Tetrahydroisobenzofuran-1,3-dione is a fatty acid that can be found in the multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The surface methodology for this compound is homotropic cooperativity. The methyl ethyl (MES) buffer has been used to study the effect of pH on 4,5,6,7-tetrahydroisobenzofuran-1,3-dione. It has been found that at an acidic pH the molecule will have a carbonyl group and a glutamate residue. This molecule has been shown to inhibit cancer cells and glutamate dehydrogenase enzyme activity. Control experiments have also been conducted using 4,5,6,7-tetrahydroisobenzofuran-1,3-dione as a treatment for cancer cells.
