2-(Thiophen-2-yl)acetaldehyde is a fatty acid that can be synthesized by reacting 2-thienylacetic acid with methyl linoleate in the presence of pyridinium chlorochromate. This product has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and an ability to suppress the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. This compound also exhibits a high degree of oxidation resistance, which makes it suitable for use in industrial processes such as sulfide removal. 2-(Thiophen-2-yl)acetaldehyde is found naturally in animals, but can also be synthesized artificially.
