Description

Thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione is an antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the receptor site of bacteria and blocking the production of essential proteins. This drug binds to the hydrogen bond donor site on the bacterial ribosome and prevents bond formation between amino acids. Thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione has been tested for its efficacy against cancer cells and cardiovascular disorders. Thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione also has a bactericidal effect. This drug is not active against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
