2-(Trifluoromethyl)-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid is a chlorinated compound that reacts with alcohols and amines to form chloroformyl derivatives. It is also used as a reagent for the conversion of terephthalic acid to 2,6-dichloro-p-xylene. This chemical has been shown to react with carboxylic acids in a Langmuir monolayer, forming stable chemisorbed complexes. 2-(Trifluoromethyl)-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid can be detected by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction studies.
