Description

4,5,6,7-Tetrahydro-1h-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridine is an organic compound that is used as a starting material for the synthesis of certain pharmaceuticals. It can form two tautomeric forms: 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-[1]imidazopyridine and 5-(2H)-imidazopyridine. The hydrochloride salt of this compound has been found to have antihypertensive activity. This drug is also a hydrogen bond acceptor and has been shown to have inflammatory disease properties. It also inhibits steroidal alkaloids and biological reactions catalyzed by enzymes such as hydroxylases and aminotransferases. This molecule has been shown to react with benzyl groups in the presence of base or acid to produce various reaction products.
