1,2,4-Triaminobenzenedihydrochloride is a polycarboxylic acid that can be used as a silver ion source in electrochemical measurements. It reacts with amines to form reaction products which are insoluble in water and can be detected by their characteristic red fluorescence. 1,2,4-Triaminobenzenedihydrochloride also reacts with nitric acid to produce hydrogen bonds and is resistant to hydrolysis by water molecules. In the presence of high concentrations of sodium citrate or hydrochloric acid, 1,2,4-triaminobenzenedihydrochloride undergoes cleavage reactions that produce ethyl acetoacetate and acetamide.
