Description:
3,3,4,4-Tetrachlorotetrahydrothiophene1,1-dioxide (TCDD) is a high yield active compound that reacts with sulfur and chlorine in a stepwise manner to form 3,3',4,4'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB), which is an important reaction product. The reaction rate is increased by the addition of chloride or chlorinated organic solvents. The irradiation of PCBs with carbon tetrachloride produces 2-chloro-2',6'-dinitrobenzophenone (DNCB), which has synergistic effects with TCDD.
