Description

2-Tetradecyloxybenzaldehyde is a colorless liquid with a viscosity of 1.5 cP at 25 °C and a boiling point of 238 °C. It has an aromatic hydrocarbon structure, consisting of two hydroxy groups, one on the benzene ring and one on the 2-tetradecyl group. 2-Tetradecyloxybenzaldehyde has been shown to inhibit the growth of epoxide-producing bacteria such as Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis, which are associated with acne. This compound also inhibits the replication of rhinoviruses in cells by binding to viral RNA polymerase II, thereby inhibiting transcription and protein synthesis. The molecular dynamics simulations revealed that 2-tetradecyloxybenzaldehyde had ferroelectric properties in liquid crystal compositions.
