3-(Trimethylsilylethynyl)thiophene is a reactive chemical that is used in the synthesis of other chemicals. It has a carbonyl group and three functional groups, which are the alcohol, ketone, and chloride. This compound can be synthesized by reacting aldehydes with trifluoromethyl chloroformate and then adding trimethylsilylacetylene. 3-(Trimethylsilylethynyl)thiophene reacts with alcohols to form ketones and with chloroformates to form chlorothiophenes. It also reacts with fluoride ions to produce fluoro compounds.
