2,4,6-Trihydroxybenzoic acid hydrate is a chemical compound that is used to treat inflammatory bowel disease. It has been shown to inhibit tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which are involved in the inflammatory process. In addition, 2,4,6-trihydroxybenzoic acid hydrate inhibits the growth of cancer cells by direct cytotoxicity or by blocking transcriptional regulation and the synthesis of proteins necessary for cellular proliferation. This drug also has antifungal activity against type strain; it is not active against Candida albicans. 2,4,6-Trihydroxybenzoic acid hydrate has been found to be effective in vitro as a wastewater treatment agent.
