Product Information

Name:
2,2',6,6'-Tetramethyl-4,4'-bipyridine
Synonyms:
  • 4,4-bi-2,6-Lutidine
Description:

2,2',6,6'-Tetramethyl-4,4'-bipyridine (TMBI) is a noncoordinating ligand that has been used extensively as a metal complexing agent. TMBI binds to anions such as nitrate and amino groups. TMBI can be prepared by the reaction of diethylenetriamine with nitric acid in the presence of aluminum chloride. The resulting dinuclear linear ligand has two nitrogen atoms and two ethylene diamine moieties. TMBI is a linear molecule consisting of two 2,2',6,6'-tetramethyl-4,4'-bipyridines linked by their amine groups. It is also a group P2 molecule with four nitrogen atoms and four carbon atoms.
